10,000 Linux Requests and climbing

Last night, July 17th at 5:45pm, TheLinuxStore.ca’s free Linux disk project took in request number 10,000. Demand for Linux disks is still strong since the release of the project. Suse is still the most popular requested distribution, followed by Fedora. The USA has the most requests but Chile, Argentina and India have many requests as well.

We still have room for some sponsors. We have had many discussions with people interested in the sponsor program. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please contact us. Becoming a sponsor is a great way to tell hundreds of thousands of people about your product or service.

The project will soon be translated into many different languages. Special thanks to everyone who volunteered to translate. If you can help translate please contact us.

One more thing, my apologies for any unanswered email, I have received so many emails that it is hard to keep up.

    hi,
i have a suggestion. You have said that the about 70% of the cost is for shipping. And that too shipping to a foreign country may be more expensive. So why cant u have some people in each country who are willing to work for u. That’s u give money and the addresses to these volunteers and let them Make the DVDs and post them in their respective countries. I think this may reduce the costs. You may contact regional Linux User Groups for this. They may be willing to help.

The second choice for optimization- to send big packs (~500 cd/dvd at once) to local linux groups and to forvard requests to those groups. It could help. :)

    Hi,

Very glad to see that the project is funded again by generous volunteers dedicated to promote the open source code. Also surprised to note that the USA has the most requests for FREE CDs compared to developing and under-developed countries!

I agree with Arun Thomas’ comments.
