It is with great delight that I announce the first bulk shipment of free Linux disks from the Free Linux Disk project. This shipment will put Linux into the hands of people from around the world. This would not have been made possible without support from the contributors, the sponsors, and your donations. A huge thank you to everyone that continues to help and make the project a success.
I would like to give special thank you to the project contributors. They have shipped over 1000 requests at their expense. They are a tremendous help to the project and their efforts are very much appreciated.
This shipment is our largest shipment so far, but we still have thousands of requests to fill. We just cannot keep up with demand. The project is looking for ways to create disks at a faster pace. One of the best ways to do this is to acquire some CD/DVD duplication equipment. So, we have recently announced the “Big Daddy Tux” fundraiser for this equipment. The price/bonus pools for the fundraiser are of great value and they continue to grow.
It has been a tough time to put this first truly bulk shipment together. We have faced many obstacles, but we continue to step up and face them as best as we can. The generous help from so many people has made it so much easier. If you would like to contribute to the project, please visit the contribute page and the Big Daddy Tux fundraiser page. We look forward to our next shipment.
PS - I hope you like the pic, we decided to try to get creative with some of the disks before we sent them out.

What a great idea!
I’m pleased to see the Linux community doing things like this to get Linux into the hands and onto the hard drives of more people.
i recieved my ubuntu linux cd’s in the mail last weekend did the change over late sunday night.freedom at last no more window’s, no more crashing os, no more error messages. my machine microsoft free thank you linux……..
I can’t leave windows, i know.. it is hard to read but its true. my work is based on windows and visual basic 6 and i dont want to move to .net (because i dont want it, and i dont like), if i had to i will but i have to move all the years of developing… i dont want.
i know what you think.
in the other hand i make websites, and guess what? i use Photoshop CS 2 and Dreamweaver 8, and swish or flash if i want.. linux its beautifull.. yeah i think that. but have not support for big leaders software developers!!
i play kalonline… guess what? there is no support for linux!
also i play half life, counter strike 1.5, hl2, need for speed most wanted?
i have to say that. linux is ok for what? running desktop? and then? do what? no crashing, no error msgs, but no doing nothing!!
if i have not dreamweaver, vb6, or photoshop, i will not move, i dont want put myself at a learning starting on new language.. even if i jump to linux and select a new languague (for ex: c++) i cant make windows .exes!
i hope you don’t missunderstand me. i like linux, but i have to die in windows.
i want jump to linux, but i just can’t.
if i could find a linux that support the windows programs…
wine is good but.. its not enough. if were so powerfull should learn what a .exe is and what to do with it, if setup then install (and make a whatever it have to, but install exactly as it should install in windows os), if installed then use.
if you know how then talk me pls.

Visual BASIC? No, but there is a BASIC IDE for Linux: Gambas( http://gambas.sourceforge.net/ )
There are also a ton of other powerful scripting languages on Linux, like Python and Perl.
Photoshop? The Gimp seems to do most everything PhotoShop does for website design, and certainly does everything you could reasonably need for the purpose.
HTML? CSS? Lots of Linux developer software, try Quanta Plus or Screem or Bluefish.
Windows games? A few have Linux versions, but most don’t. If you want a gaming platform (and not a work platform), Linux isn’t a great choice, I agree.
I moved to Linux in 2000, and by now seem to have found a Linux app for everything I want to do - even unusual things, such as a radio-control flight simulator program (CRRCSIM)!
